Morning Glory
Morning Glory is an inventory of street mattress photographs by Fiona Lascelles.
I discovered that the word mattress is derived from Arabic words meaning to throw and place where something is thrown, or mat, cushion… Seems more than appropriate for this collection. I am interested in looking at objects when they are viewed out of their normal context and what the effects of mis-placement have on how you look at something. With this idea in mind, the images were shot in quite a matter-of-fact or unheroic way, not imbued with too much traditional photographic language. In keeping with the translation of the word and the subjects of my shots, I was aiming for the throw-away image…
